Start of Year 26

The new SIM year started early this morning. For once I had no barren mares or bucked shins in my 2-year-olds. However, counting my mixed breeds, I now have 262 racing horses. I won't be able to test any of my new 4-year-olds for jumper ability until Monday which is also when I will be able to put in my first entrants for week 1 races. I still have around 70 TB yearlings to name but I'm trying to hold off until I at least galloip them. A little anxious for Monday.

Friday Year 25 Week 16 11/20/09

The last night of racing for year 25! 24 running tonight but I think most of them are outclassed, even in the maiden fields.

A Friend of Mine - 2-year-old mile colt - Bred for dirt but with a decent AW work, this is his first start on AW, third start over all. Running in a sponsored maiden race, nine horse field. 4 43

Amir - 4-year-old Arabian colt - Fairly consistent but not lightning fast. Stretching him out to 2 miles tonight in a sponsored 200K Grade 1 stakes, eight horse field, over a sloppy track. He's run once before at this distance and finished fourth. There's a lot of really good horses in this field, I won't be surprised if he finishes out of the money.

This is the last week of racing for Year 25. I have 21 running tonight, some are mares that will be retired for breeding, some I'm running to see if they're worth keeping, and some I'm running because they're due for a race.

Aces High - 5-year-old chase gelding - He has three wins and a second place finish out of six starts. He's running tonight in an allowance with a full field, looks competitive. With luck he'll get up for a check but I'm not counting on it. 3 84

Amador - 2-year-old gelding - Four starts on dirt and no wins, only two fourth place finishes. I was about to put him on the sales page last night and decided to try him on all weather, his all weather works as a yearling weren't bad. So he's in a maiden race, eight horse field. 5 33

Astral Queen - 4-year-old chase filly - Four starts chasing, has one second place finish. Running tonight in a 30K claimer, six horse field. 4 45

Chickesaw - 2-year-old dirt mile filly - I haven't been able to figure this girl out yet. As a yearling she received the "wings" comment and put out some fast workouts. She's raced twice with a fifth and sixth place finish. I'm cutting her back to a mile tonight to see if there is any difference. I actually feel she needs to go longer and won't have that chance until she's three but I thought I may as well give her a start at a mile so I can get that out of the equation. She's running in a maiden race with a four horse field. 1 64

Only one week of racing left for this SIM year. I've been trying to get all of my mares bred and have done pretty well with it, I think I have less than ten left to breed.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had won the Breeder's Cup handicapping contest on the forum. The prize is 50 Game Points which equals $50 in real life, I am shocked that I won. Now I wish I had gone to the track and bet some real money on some of those races!

Later today there is to be a mixed breed broodmare sale on the sales page. There is a limit of 5, I think I'll try to get one of each breed except the Pacers which I have rotten luck with anyway. I didn't see any mention of the price but I assume it will probably be something close to what the first or second group of mixers were.

Tonight I have 25 running, only one I am really interested in "Night Race" a 2-year-old who got a 67 first time I raced her at her proper distance. (I messed up her first race.) The rest are mostly fillers or horses I'm just trying to decide if I want to keep or not. I've been dumping a few onto the sales page every other day to offset the foals that have been coming in.

Autochthoe - 2-year-old turf root filly - She's running in a 32K claimer tonight, five horse field, there's a slim possibility that she breaks her maiden. 3 45

Dionysia - 3-year-old dirt mile filly - She is basically a filler, bred to be a turf horse but very slow at it. Unimpressive. Tonight she's on dirt running in a MSW, four horse field. 3 40

Fire Song - 4-year-old all weather route gelding - My expensive yearling that never panned out, now a filler. Running in a Starter Allowance, four horse field. 2 50
